How to use
Taking it in the evening: count first, then three capsules
01 · Add up what you already take
ADD.
List any other magnesium supplements, antacids or laxatives first, because the NIH upper limit of 350 mg a day for adults counts supplements and medicines, not food.
02 · Take three capsules
TAKE.
Swallow the three capsules together with water in the evening, as the label directs.
03 · Stay at one serving a day
STAY.
Do not exceed the recommended dose; one 90-capsule bottle covers 30 days at one serving a day.
04 · Stop and ask if your stomach complains
STOP.
Diarrhea, nausea and cramping are the effects NIH lists for high supplemental doses, so speak to a pharmacist or doctor if they appear.
What Tri-Mag Night is
Tri-Mag Night is a food supplement for adults: three capsules a day, taken in the evening with water, that together provide 200 mg of elemental magnesium.
Read the details: what tri-mag night is
The magnesium comes from three forms, magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium L-threonate and magnesium taurate. A bottle holds 90 capsules, which is 30 servings.
The capsule is vegetarian, and the formula contains no magnesium oxide or citrate. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements notes that supplements can contain many different forms of magnesium, and that absorption varies between them. Our guide to the types of magnesium compares nine of them.
This is a three-form magnesium product in capsule form, not a gummy or a powder. It is meant for adults who have already decided to add magnesium for their own reasons.
Elemental magnesium: the number that matters
A magnesium compound is mostly something other than magnesium.
Read the details: elemental magnesium: the number that matters
PubChem lists magnesium bisglycinate at 172.42 g/mol, and magnesium accounts for about 24.3 of that, so the compound is about 14% magnesium by weight. In practice, 400 mg of the compound holds about 56 mg of magnesium.
By the same arithmetic, magnesium taurate (272.6 g/mol) is about 9% magnesium and magnesium L-threonate (294.5 g/mol) about 8%, both calculated for the dry compound. That is why the elemental figure is the only number that lets you compare this capsule fairly with another magnesium product.
Each serving provides 200 mg, which is 53% of the 375 mg nutrient reference value in EU food-labeling law. NIH recommended intakes for adults run from 310 to 420 mg a day from all sources, depending on age and sex, and the NHS gives 300 mg for men and 270 mg for women aged 19 to 64.
The NIH upper limit for magnesium from supplements and medicines is 350 mg a day for adults, and it does not count magnesium from food and drink. One serving sits below that limit, but other supplements, antacids and laxatives count toward it. Our guide to magnesium dosage numbers sets the figures out in full.
The three forms on the label, and what research says
Magnesium bisglycinate is magnesium bound to the amino acid glycine.
Read the details: the three forms on the label, and what research says
A 2025 trial in 155 adults with poor sleep found that four weeks of 250 mg of elemental magnesium as bisglycinate lowered Insomnia Severity Index scores by 3.9 points against 2.3 on placebo, and a 2026 summary of 12 randomized trials rated the overall certainty of the evidence on magnesium and sleep low to very low; our magnesium for sleep guide covers both.
Magnesium L-threonate is a newer form bound to threonic acid. An 80-adult trial of people aged 35 to 55 with self-reported sleep problems gave 1 g a day of the compound or a placebo for 21 days and reported better questionnaire and wearable-ring scores in the threonate group (abstract). That is a single short trial, and 1 g is the weight of the compound, roughly 80 mg or less of elemental magnesium on the formula weight above.
Magnesium taurate is magnesium bound to taurine. A PubMed search for magnesium taurate returns nine records, mostly animal studies and three 1996 papers, plus an uncontrolled 2026 study of a taurate and potassium citrate combination, and we found no sleep trial to cite. We make no claim for taurate, although magnesium bisglycinate and taurate both appear on the EU list of mineral substances permitted in food supplements.
It does not repeat either trial: it provides 200 mg of elemental magnesium in total across three forms, and the label details do not state the split between them. Results from single-form trials therefore cannot be carried over to this product.
Who this capsule suits, and who should skip it
It suits adults who have checked their current magnesium intake, have no medical reason to avoid supplemental magnesium and prefer a capsule to a powder or gummy.
Read the details: who this capsule suits, and who should skip it
The NHS says you should be able to get all the magnesium you need from a varied, balanced diet, so a supplement is a personal choice, not a requirement.
Skip it if you are under 18. Ask a doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have kidney problems or take any medicine, because NIH notes that the kidneys largely control magnesium balance and that magnesium may interact with oral bisphosphonates and with tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics.
Count magnesium from other products before you start, and ask a pharmacist if the total looks higher than you expected. Our guide on when to take magnesium explains what is and is not known about timing.

Magnesium wording from the EU and GB register
This is wording authorised in the EU/GB register, not evaluated by the US FDA. It describes magnesium as a nutrient, not Tri-Mag Night, and each line may be used only for food that is at least a source of magnesium. As a rule, EU food-labeling law counts 15% of the reference value as a significant amount, and one serving here provides 53% of the 375 mg value.
- Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
- Magnesium contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system.
- Magnesium contributes to normal psychological function.
- Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function.
- Magnesium contributes to electrolyte balance.
- Magnesium contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism.

Before you order
A realistic picture of what a bottle involves
Based on the label and the published research, not on a promise.
01
A routine, not a result
The routine is three capsules and a glass of water in the evening, once a day. The sleep trials cited above ran for 21 days and four weeks, so a single night says little either way. Keep the sleep habits the NHS recommends, such as getting up at the same time each day and avoiding large meals late at night.
02
Stomach comfort comes first
Loose stools, nausea and cramping are the effects NIH lists for high doses of magnesium from supplements, and the NHS says more than 400 mg for a short time can cause diarrhea. One serving here is 200 mg, but magnesium from other supplements and medicines adds up, so stop and speak to a pharmacist or doctor if your stomach complains.
03
Size and supply
Each capsule carries about a third of the label figures, so roughly 67 mg of elemental magnesium per capsule. One bottle of 90 capsules lasts 30 days at one serving a day, and the 3-bottle and 6-bottle packs cover 90 and 180 days.
04
What will not change
We do not promise better sleep or any other result from this product. The NHS advises seeing a GP if changing your habits has not helped or if you have had trouble sleeping for months, and checking with a doctor before taking anything for sleep problems. A supplement does not replace that advice.
One magnesium form or three?
Neither choice has a clear edge in the research we found, so this table sets out what is and is not known about each.
One form (for example bisglycinate alone)
Three forms (Tri-Mag Night)
What is in it
One form (for example bisglycinate alone)
One compound supplies the whole elemental dose.
Three forms (Tri-Mag Night)
Bisglycinate, L-threonate and taurate share 200 mg of elemental magnesium, and the split is not stated.
Sleep trials we read
One form (for example bisglycinate alone)
Bisglycinate has one four-week trial.
Three forms (Tri-Mag Night)
One small trial each for bisglycinate and L-threonate, none we could cite for taurate, and none of this exact blend.
Elemental share by weight
One form (for example bisglycinate alone)
About 14% for bisglycinate; other forms differ.
Three forms (Tri-Mag Night)
About 14% for bisglycinate, 9% for taurate and 8% for L-threonate (dry compounds).
Absorption evidence
One form (for example bisglycinate alone)
Studied form by form: NIH says forms that dissolve well in liquid are absorbed better, and citrate tends to beat oxide.
Three forms (Tri-Mag Night)
No head-to-head data on this blend that we found; a 2019 test of 15 commercial products found very wide variation between products.
Tolerance
One form (for example bisglycinate alone)
Any form can cause diarrhea, nausea and cramping at high supplemental doses.
Three forms (Tri-Mag Night)
The same caution applies, and we read no trial that compares gut tolerance across forms.
Cost and capsule count
One form (for example bisglycinate alone)
Compare cost per 100 mg of elemental magnesium, not per bottle.
Three forms (Tri-Mag Night)
About 67 mg of elemental magnesium per capsule, three capsules a day; the pack table prints cost per serving.
This is not a verdict, because no trial we found compares one form with three, and the right choice depends on your intake, tolerance and budget.

Common questions
What is in Tri-Mag Night?
Tri-Mag Night is a magnesium capsule combining magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium L-threonate and magnesium taurate, with 200 mg of elemental magnesium per serving of three capsules. A bottle holds 90 capsules, which is 30 servings. The capsule is vegetarian, and there is no magnesium oxide or citrate in the formula.
How should I take the capsules?
Take three capsules in the evening with water, once a day, and do not exceed the recommended dose. Count magnesium from other supplements and medicines such as some antacids and laxatives, because the NIH upper limit for supplements is 350 mg a day for adults.
What does elemental magnesium mean on the label?
It is the weight of the mineral itself, not of the compound it is attached to. Magnesium bisglycinate is about 14% magnesium by weight, so 400 mg of the compound holds about 56 mg of magnesium.
Is 200 mg of magnesium a lot?
It is 53% of the EU reference value of 375 mg and below the NIH upper limit of 350 mg a day for supplements. NIH recommended intakes for adults run from 310 to 420 mg a day from all sources, depending on age and sex.
Will it help me sleep?
We make no promise that it will. The sleep trials we read tested single magnesium forms, not this blend, and our magnesium for sleep guide sets out what they show and what they do not.
Is three-form magnesium better than one form?
We cannot say, because no trial we found compares one form with three. The comparison table above sets out what is known.
Who should skip it or ask a doctor first?
It is for adults only, so it is not for under 18s. Ask a doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have kidney problems or take medicines.
Can I take it with medicines or other supplements?
Ask a pharmacist or doctor first. NIH says oral bisphosphonates and some antibiotics may not be absorbed well if taken too soon before or after magnesium supplements, and that diuretics and proton pump inhibitors can affect magnesium status.
How is my order delivered, and can I return it?
Delivery is tracked and takes an estimated 4 to 5 working days to the UK and 5 to 8 working days elsewhere from dispatch, which are estimates, not guaranteed dates. A 30-day money-back guarantee applies, as set out on the shipping and returns page.
